About ATLSS
The Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Center was established at Lehigh University in 1986 with a grant from the Engineering Research Centers (ERC) program of the National Science Foundation. Funding from the ERC program concluded in 1997 after completion of the maximum eleven year life cycle. The ATLSS Center remains engaged in ERC program activities, and now receives funding from a wide range of sources .The ATLSS Center is located in the Imbt Laboratories on Mountaintop Campus at Lehigh University. ATLSS focuses on the full life-cycle of structural systems and materials for the infrastructure, including, for example, developing new systems and materials, assessing the condition of existing systems and materials, developing technology for assessing conditions (e.g., non-destructive evaluation and monitoring technology), understanding system and material failures, and developing technology for repairing and retrofitting existing systems.
ATLSS is cross-disciplinary. Faculty, staff, and student researchers from civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, business and education work within the Center.
